Centre County Coroner Scott A. Sayers will seek election this year for a seventh term, he said in a press release.
Sayers, a Democrat, has been coroner since 1998. He said he would continue to serve cooperatively with law enforcement, EMS, fire companies and other agencies.
During his current term from 2019-2022, the coroner’s office has investigated more than 3,600 deaths.
A resident of Milesburg, Sayers is an active member of the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Association and serves as regional vice-president on its executive board. He maintains education requirements for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Coroners’ Education Board, and he obtained recertification as diplomatic status with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, a national recognition certifying he meets and exceeds national standards in the performance of coroner duties.
Sayers is an active member of the Centre County Heroin & Opioid Prevention & Education (HOPE) initiative and is an active member of the Federal Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team.
A 1985 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School, he attended Lock Haven University and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1988. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1990.
The municipal primary election is May 16. The first day for candidates to circulate and file nomination petitions is Feb. 14.
