Two Penn State student groups, the People’s Defense Front and the Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity, have announced plans to protest Donald Trump’s campaign rally on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The groups plan to meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of East College Avenue and South Garner Street in downtown State College, then march to the Bryce Jordan Center at 2:30 p.m.
“It is our duty to defend our communities from racism and hate that Trump’s presence seeks to inflame in State College,” the groups wrote in a statement on social media. “Help us protect our communities from such racist violence by protesting Trump’s visit!! Let’s send the message through direct action that Trumpism is not welcome here!!”
The two groups have organized protests in State College in the past, most notably a pro-Palestine rally that marched through downtown streets earlier this month. The organizations will also protest an Uncensored America event featuring Milo Yiannopoulos and Martin Shkreli on Monday at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Trump is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. Saturday, marking the first visit to Centre County by a presidential candidate this election cycle.
