Penn State’s Berkey Creamery ice cream is among the Keystone State products vying for the title of “Coolest Thing Made in PA” in the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry’s second annual tournament competition.
The bracket features 64 made-in-PA products competing for votes on the Chamber’s X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts. The Creamery is facing off against Lycoming Engines in round one voting through noon on Friday, March 22.
Vote in the Creamery’s first-round matchup on X and on the Chamber’s Instagram story.
“It is an honor to be selected in the top 64 by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry,” Jim Brown, sales and marketing manager for the creamery, said in a statement. “Our goal always has been to make the university proud, and this is just another way we hope to serve everyone who has made us what we are today. We are a generational, family-friendly tradition; to all who visit, we thank you.”
The bracket includes a wide range of world famous products made in Pennsylvania, such as Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Zippo lighters, Crayola crayons, Mrs. T’s Pierogies Martin Guitars and Mack Trucks, as well as more regional favorites like New Trail Brewing Broken Heels IPA, Troeg’s Brewing’s Perpetual IPA, Middleswarth chips, Sheetz MTO and Rutter’s chocolate milk.
Looking to repeat as “Coolest Thing Made in PA” is the Primanti Bros. sandwich, which claimed the inaugural title in 2023. The Pittsburgh-based restaurant chain offered free beer (or in State College, White Claw) after winning the crown last year.
Second round voting will begin on Tuesday, March 26. If the Creamery advances, it will face the winner of Gilson Snowboards and Painterland Sisters Organic Yogurt.
Voting schedule:
Second Round (32): March 26 – March 29
Third round (16): April 2 – April 3
Fourth round (8): April 4- April 5
Semi-finals (4): April 8 – April 9
Championship: April 10 – April 11
“After months of soliciting public comment, we’ve settled on 64 teams and expanded voting to X and Instagram to encourage an even greater amount of voter participation,” PA Chamber President and CEO Luke Bernstein said in a statement. “Pennsylvania’s excellence in manufacturing really shines in this annual event, and we love showcasing these products as much as voters love showing their brand loyalty.”
