The Nittany Lion is getting another revamp.
Penn State is launching new logos and marks depicting the Nittany Lion mascot in an effort to “update and modernize the iconic Nittany Lion’s brand,” the university announced in a release. Merchandise featuring the new logos will roll out on Friday, October 4, ahead of the UCLA game.
The university will release full body, head and signature marks as its first in a series of new Nittany Lion logos.
The first products will be dropped at The Family Clothesline on Friday, where the Nittany Lion mascot will be signing autographs at the store from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Mugs, stickers and decals, apparel, hats, giftware and more will feature the new marks. After the Family Clothesline launch, products will be made available wherever Penn State merchandise is sold.
“The Nittany Lion mascot has been a mainstay to the image of Penn State for 120 years, embodying the ‘We Are’ spirit and cultivating pride from the classroom to the athletics fields,” Rachel Pell, vice president for Strategic Communications, said in the release. “I’m excited to introduce to the Penn State community a fresh take on our beloved Nittany Lion, especially the highly requested signature, which can now be shared with the broader Penn State audience through stickers and decals.”
