A Penn State fraternity chapter has been suspended for more than three years after a university investigation found it hazed new members.
Pi Delta Psi’s Tau chapter was suspended effective Nov. 21 through at least the spring of 2028, according to a news release. If it is recognized again by the university, the fraternity will have an additional year of organizational conduct probation.
The Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response investigation determined that the fraternity’s hazing of new members during the spring 2024 semester included “coerced high-risk alcohol consumption,” according to the release.
“Both the local chapter and the national organization have been made aware of the investigation outcome,” the university wrote.
While suspended, the fraternity cannot function as a sanctioned Penn State organization and is prohibited from participating in or organizing any activities or events.
Penn State advised parents and families in October that the university reports of hazing had more than doubled compared to the same time last year.
Pi Delta Psi is one of 10 fraternities currently suspended by the university. That list includes Beta Theta Pi, which was permanently banned from Penn State for hazing following the death of pledge Timothy Piazza in 2017.
