Penn State has suspended a fraternity for what the university called an “unauthorized, high-risk event.”

Theta Delta Chi is suspended effective May 17 through at least spring 2025, according to the university. The chapter also was placed on organizational conduct probation through spring 2027.

The fraternity, located at 305 E. Prospect Ave. in State College, held the event in March and at the time had already been prohibited from hosting social functions “due to a previously existing organizational misconduct restriction,” a university investigation found.

“The local chapter of Theta Delta Chi has been working closely with the Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to develop a comprehensive reform plan,” Penn State wrote in a news release. “The fraternity’s national organization and its alumni leadership have also partnered with the University throughout the process.”

While on suspension the fraternity chapter is prohibited from functioning as a university-sanctioned organization. It cannot organize, participate in or attend any activities or events, including university-wide activities.

Theta Delta Chi is the third fraternity suspended by Penn State in the last year. Phi Kappa Sigma and Kappa Alpha Psi were suspended in October for four years following separate hazing investigations.

They are among at least 10 fraternities at Penn State currently suspended by the university or their national organizations, according to the school’s most recent Greek Chapter Scorecard.  Three of those suspensions end in August.
