A shoe store will take over the former Pier 1 Imports location at the Trader Joe’s Plaza in Patton Township.

Shoe Dept. Encore has signed a lease for the 9,700 square-foot space at 221 Patriot Lane, Keystone Real Estate Group commercial Realtor Kandy Weader, who leased the property, said on Thursday.

An opening date has not yet been set.

“They are early on in the process,” Weader said.

Shoe Dept. Encore also has a 12,500-square-foot store in the Nittany Mall. A spokesperson for the store’s parent company, North Carolina-based Shoe Show Inc., could not be reached for comment on Thursday. Weader said she does not know the company’s plans for the Nittany Mall store.

Pier 1 closed last summer after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced it would shutter all 540 of its stores.

The 8,000-square-foot end cap space formerly occupied by Gap Factory Outlet, which also closed last summer, is the only remaining unleased space in the plaza, which includes Trader Joe’s, Old Navy, Ulta, Men’s Wearhouse and Moe’s Southwest Grill.
