Centre County registered 104 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to increase its total to 32,270, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 28,810 are confirmed and 3,460 are probable
It marked the county’s lowest single-day total in a week, although it followed a trend of lower reporting on Mondays. Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 235, down from 270 a week ago.
Pennsylvania had fewer than 10,000 new cases for the first time since Dec. 26. The 9,331 new positives bring the statewide total to 2,581,831.
The commonwealth’s seven-day moving average is 15,338, down more than 12,000 from the 25,739 average a week prior.
Deaths
DOH recorded no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 316, including 27 reported this month.
With 22 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 39,560.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center has 49 COVID-19 inpatients, one more than on Sunday, with four in intensive care and three on ventilators [-1].
The patients range in age from 28 to 96, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twenty-one are fully vaccinated and 28 are not vaccinated.
Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations fell for the eighth consecutive day. According to the hospital preparedness dashboard, 6,249 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 90 fewer than on Sunday, with 992 patients in intensive care [-34] and 612 on ventilators [-13].
Nursing and Personal Care Home Cases
Long-term care facilities in Centre County reported four new cases among residents and 10 among employees. A total of 20 nursing and personal care homes in the county have had a combined 736 resident cases, 699 employee cases and 180 resident deaths.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has four active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 23 among staff.
Rockview state prison has 57 active inmate cases and 52 among staff.
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,476 inmates are fully vaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated and 196 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 306 are fully vaccinated and 322 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,692 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 58 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 343 are fully vaccinated and 374 are not vaccinated.
DOC will suspend in-person visitations at all state prisons from Thursday through Feb. 28 because of staffing shortages resulting from quarantine requirements, according to a department news release on Monday.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Monday morning, 92,590 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 21 since Sunday, and 13,972 are partially covered [+9]. Booster doses have been administered to 46,047 county residents [+56].
Among the county’s entire population, 68.1% have received at least one dose, 58.1% are fully vaccinated and 48.6% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 73.5% have received at least one dose, 62.4% are fully vaccinated and 51.1% have received a booster.
Statewide, 75.3% of adults and 65.4% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov. CVIM and Penn State also are providing a free vaccination clinic for ages 12 and older from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bryce Jordan Center
All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
