Centre County Adds 17 COVID-19 Cases Over 2 Days; Pennsylvania Reports 2,106 New Positives

Centre County reported a combined 17 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and Sunday to increase its total to 17,070, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 2,106 positives over the two days, bringing the statewide total to 1,226,606.

DOH did not update its COVID-19 data on Saturday, so only combined numbers for both days was available on Sunday.

The county also reported 129 negative test results to bring its total to 72,815. Statewide, there were 11,156 new negatives for a total of 4,917,599.

Centre County’s positivity rate and new cases increased for a third consecutive week. For the week of July 23-July 29, the county’s PCR testing positivity rate was 3.6%, up from 2.9% the previous seven days, according to the updated DOH early warning monitoring dashboard. The rate was tied for 31st among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

The county had 42 confirmed cases last week, up from 33 the prior week.

The statewide positivity rate was 3.9.%, up from 2.7% the previous seven days. It was the fourth consecutive week Pennsylvania’s positivity rate increased after 12 consecutive weeks of decreases. The commonwealth had 4,091 new positives last week, up from 2,515 the prior week.

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 10 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, one fewer than on Friday. One is in intensive care and none are on ventilators.

Average daily COVID-specific hospitalizations in Centre County increased from to 4.3 to 9.0 for the week of July 23-29.

Pennsylvania has 472 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of one since Friday, with 104 in intensive care [+3] and 54 on ventilators.

Statewide average COVID hospitalizations increased from 289.4 to 418.9 last week.

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents on Saturday or Sunday, keeping the total at 228 for the 30th consecutive day.

With five new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,855.

An estimated 97% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation

As of Sunday morning, 77,736 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 5,614 are partially covered.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
