An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 232.

With 83 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,651.

Post-Vaccination Data

For the first time, DOH released statewide data on post-vaccination events, or “breakthrough” cases, showing that the overwhelming majority of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths since the beginning of 2021 have been among individuals who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated against the virus.

• Deaths: 6,259, or 97%, of 6,472 COVID-19-related deaths identified in Pennsylvania from Jan. 1 through Sept. 7 were among unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people. Fully vaccinated individuals accounted for 213 of COVID deaths (3%).

• Hospitalizations: 32,648, or 95%, of the 34,468 reported hospitalizations with COVID-19 as the primary diagnosis / cause of admission this year were among unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people. Fully vaccinated individuals accounted for 1,820 COVID hospitalizations (5%)

• Cases: 604,340, or 94%, of 639,729 COVID-19 cases were among unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people. Fully vaccinated individuals accounted for 35,389 COVID cases (6%).

“With nearly seven million Pennsylvanians fully vaccinated, the data makes it clear: the vaccines are safe and effective at preventing severe illness from COVID-19,” Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said during a news conference on Tuesday.

“The overwhelming majority of the COVID-19 related cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Pennsylvania occurred in people who were not vaccinated. In fact, the data shows that compared to unvaccinated people, fully vaccinated Pennsylvanians are seven times less likely to get COVID-19, and eight times less likely to die from COVID-19.”

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 81,577 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+118 since Monday] and 6,618 are partially covered [-41]. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 60.7% of the county’s entire population and 67.6% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 67.2% of adults are vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administer, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

Transmission Level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Sunday afternoon.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

State College Borough Council on Monday approved a temporary ordinance requiring masks to be worn indoors at businesses and other facilities open to the public while the county is in the high level of transmission.
