Centre County reported 43 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 13,093, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 2,757 positives, bringing its total to 944,196.
The county also had 259 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 61,867. Across Pennsylvania there were 10,767 new negatives for a total of 3,926,038.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the county’s total at 211.
With 43 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide Pennsylvania’s total is now 24,262.
Mount Nittany Medical Center is currently treating 14 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Thursday. The patients range in age from 28 to 84, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Through the first five days of March, the hospital has had an average daily census of 15 COVID positive inpatients. For the month of February, Mount Nittany had 96 COVID positive admissions with an average daily censes 18 COVID inpatients per day. By comparison, it had a total of 211 COVID admissions, with an average daily census of 41 COVID positive inpatients in January.
“While hospitalizations are down, we continue to stress the absolute necessity of consistent, continued adherence to COVID safety protocols,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nirmal Joshi said in a statement. “This includes masking, avoiding large gatherings, social distancing and frequent hand washing.”
COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide continue to decline. Across Pennsylvania on Friday, 1,587 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 325 in intensive care and 173 on ventilators.
Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported one new COVID-19 case among residents. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 713 resident cases, 148 employee cases and 161 resident deaths.
An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.
A total of 27,971 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 14,309 who are fully covered with both required doses, according to health department data.
Mount Nittany Health has administered more than 18,500 vaccines, with over 7,700 future vaccination appointments scheduled. Phase 1A-eligible individuals can join Mount Nittany’s waitlist at mountnittany.org/coronavirus.
Last weekend, Mount Nittany worked with Centre Volunteers in Medicine to ensure CVIM’s mass vaccination clinic for second doses would not be postponed due to distribution delays by the health department. Mount Nittany transferred several hundred doses of Moderna vaccine to CVIM and arranged for a tray of the Pfizer vaccine with more than 1,000 doses – to be transferred to the organization so that its weekend clinic would not be impacted. DOH then scheduled an order of replacement Pfizer doses that were delivered to the hospital on Monday.

Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, said in a statement. “Working together for the greater good is what gives the Centre Region its neighborhood feel. It’s this kind of caring and compassion that will allow us to overcome the many devastating effects of COVID-19 and return to some sense of normal.”
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 811,019 are confirmed and 133,177 are probable. In Centre County, 12,020 are confirmed and 1,073 are probable.
