Centre County Adds 78 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 3,004

Centre County reported 78 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, its highest single-day increase in more than a month, to bring its total to 13,563, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 3,004 positives, bringing its total to 973,721.

The county also had 134 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 63,301. Across Pennsylvania, there were 10,005 new negatives for a total of 4,018,759.

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total to date at 214.

With 37 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 24,689.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 14 COVID-19 inpatients as of Wednesday morning, three fewer than on Tuesday. The patients range in age from 54 to 90, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, 1,500 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 284 in intensive care and 153 on ventilators.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 33,799 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The total includes 21,323 who are fully covered with both required doses, according to health department data.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 833,458 are confirmed and 140,263 are probable. In Centre County, 12,393 are confirmed and 1,170 are probable.
