Centre County reported eight new COVID-19 cases on Friday to increase its total to 17,053, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania had more than 1,000 new positives for the second consecutive day. The 1,110 new cases bring the statewide total to 1,224,500.
The county also reported 73 negative test results to bring its total to 72,686. Statewide, there were 5,871 new negatives for a total of 4,906,443.
Mount Nittany Medical Center currently has 11 COVID-19 patients, ranging in age from 33 to 88, according to a hospital spokesperson. For the month of July, MNMC has had 37 COVID-positive admissions with an average daily census of 6. In the past week, the average daily COVID-19 inpatient census has increased to nine.
“We are concerned that we are seeing a steady increase in the number of people hospitalized for COVID,” Tiffany Cabibbo, chief nursing officer and executive vice president for patient care services, said in a statement. “The vast majority of people who have been hospitalized at the Medical Center for COVID are not fully vaccinated. The COVID vaccine is highly effective and our best defense to return to normal activities. We have vaccinated more than 45,000 people in our community, and we strongly encourage everyone to receive it.”
Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to climb. Pennsylvania has 473 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 11 since Thursday, with 101 in intensive care [+14] and 50 on ventilators.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 228.
With eight new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,850.

As of Friday morning, 77,634 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 5,539 are partially covered.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
