STATE COLLEGE — The American Association of University Women, a nationwide women’s advocacy network that promotes gender equity and education for women and girls, sponsored a public program on the impact of vouchers on public education on Thursday, Sept. 26.
The program features Susan Spicka, of Education Voters PA, who discussed a “thorough and compelling explanation of the consequential and negative impacts associated with school vouchers on public school,” according to a press release from AAUW.
“Our mission is to ensure elected officials adopt and implement a pro-public education agenda. To that end, we advocate for sound education policy and build and mobilize the public will to ensure that support for quality public education and an opportunity to learn for all children is a top priority for key decision makers,” Spicka’s presentation shared.
During the presentation, Spicka discussed what vouchers are, Pennsylvania’s $525 million EITC/OSTC voucher programs, what other states are doing and how people can get involved to improve the current voucher system.
