BELLEFONTE — A $1,500 donation was made to the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association by friends of the late Steven Heverly, a Bellefonte local who died Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

In June 2024, Heverly’s friends donated a bench in his honor on Allegheny Street in Bellefonte. After raising money for the bench, the leftover funds were donated to the BHCA.

“Their decision to give the funds to the BHCA was based on the similarity between the organization’s mission and Heverly’s interests and activities, Joseph Griffin, BHCA president shared in a statement.
“Mr. Heverly was a public servant who enjoyed a decades-long career working for Centre County. In his leisure time and during his retirement, he sang, played the ukulele, wrote songs, painted, took artistic photographs and wrote plays, short stories and poetry. His full-hearted commitment to culture and the arts aligns closely to the mission of BHCA, which seeks to enrich the lives of residents and visitors by offering programs in the literary, performing and visual arts.” Griffin noted that the BHCA intends to celebrate Heverly’s “productive, artistic and satisfying life” in the first newsletter of 2025.
