CCRRA announces mini grant program

Jessi Blanarik

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP — In a statement on Tuesday, July 23, the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority announced a mini grant program to improve recycling education and the collection of materials to be processed by CCRRA.

The reimbursement program would give funds back to Centre County municipalities, businesses, recycling collection haulers, schools, health care institutions and nonprofits, based on the performance of their recycling initiatives.

The current year’s grant funding is contingent on applicant 2023 programming success. Future funding will be reassessed on an annual basis, considering the previous calendar year’s performance.

For the 2024 mini grants, $91,000 is available to be distributed in ranges from $1,000 to $15,000. Applications for the mini grant program will be open from Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Oct. 4.

The initiative aligns with the goals of CCRRA’s new recycling coordinator and deputy executive director, Mimi Cooper. Cooper, who was appointed to the position in February, noted when she took on the role that her aim in the position was to assist municipalities in their climate action goals and support recycling education county-wide. At the time of her appointment, she noted that a key factor of helping municipalities included assisting them in securing grant funding to support their operations.
