BELLEFONTE — Dust off your dancing shoes and poodle skirts and get ready to show off your best dance moves at the Jitterbug Dance Contest during the Bellefonte Cruise. While the Bellefonte Cruise will still host its annual Sock Hop on Friday, June 14, for those looking to spend some extra time on the dance floor, the Jitterbug Dance Contest offers the opportunity to not just dance, but also win cash prizes.
The adult dance competition, sponsored by the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association, will take place from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, on the Bellefonte Diamond. The competition will take place next to the main stage in front of the Bellefonte Courthouse.
Dancers will have the chance to compete for $250, $100 and $50, and trophies will be awarded to the winners.
During the competition, participants will have one dance to warm up and three judged dances to show off their moves. Each dance will be scored by the judges. Those who make it to the third judged dance will be guaranteed finalists.
Those interested in participating in the competition must be 18 years or older. The dance will occur on pavement, so plan dance moves and footwear accordingly.
The competition is limited to 20 couples. Those interested in dancing at the Jitterbug Dance Contest must register at events.bellefontearts.org/events/2024/jitterbug-dance-contest to ensure a spot. Registration is $20 per couple.
