Eighth Annual Apple Butter Festival — Saturday, Oct. 12

The eighth annual Apple Butter Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Pine Glen Community Park in Burnside Township. Apple butter making will kick off at 4 a.m. and guests are welcome to stop by during the morning as gallons of cider and apples turn into a kettle of apple butter. There will also be Irish music from noon to 2 p.m., kids’ crafts, a flea market, vendors, crafters and a Chinese Auction drawing at 3 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer Penn State 5K Walk/Run — Saturday, Oct. 12

Registration for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Penn State Walk/Run starts at 8 a.m. with the race to follow at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at University Park’s Penn State Golf Courses. Registration for the 5K is $25 per person.

Community Shred Day — Saturday, Oct. 12

There will be a Community Shred Day throughout the day on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Science Park Plaza in State College. Participants can bring personal items for shredding such as bills, bank statements, credit card offers and more. Monetary donations will also be accepted for the State College Food Bank. Guests do not need to exit their vehicles at the event as on-site volunteers will be available to remove the shred from your car.

Pop Up Ave — Saturday, Oct. 12

Pop Up Ave will be from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, in downtown State College. The event is a free curated and vintage outdoor market with vendors from across the state. There will also be a beer garden, music and food in addition to the shopping.

‘The War of the Worlds’: The 1938 Broadcast — Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13

There will be a reading of the 1938 broadcast “War of the Worlds”,” based on the novel written by H. G. Wells at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Art Alliance of Central PA in Lemont. The show will run for about an hour and tickets are $15 per person or $10 for youth, seniors and military. Items such as canned food, non-perishable goods, personal care items and cleaning supplies will be collected at the show to donate to the Faith Centre Food Bank.

Rowe’s Research Runners One Mile Walk/Run/Roll — Sunday, Oct. 13

The eighth annual Rowe’s Research Runners One Mile Walk/Run/Roll and Reception will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg. The mission of Rowe’s Research Runners is to bring awareness, fundraise and create connections for those living with myalgicencephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, dysautonomia and other related conditions, including long COVID. All money raised at the event will benefit the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Related Disorders Clinic at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Centre County Ballroom Dance — Sunday, Oct. 13

There will be another Centre County Ballroom Dance from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte. The evening will start with a waltz lesson, followed by dancing. Guests are asked to bring a friend and a snack to share.

Howard UMC Soup Sale and Luncheon — Thursday, Oct. 17

Howard United Methodist Church is sponsoring a community soup sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the church in Howard. Guests can eat in or take soup to go. Available options include vegetable beef, ham and bean, chicken corn and chicken noodle. The cost for a quart of soup is $8 with proceeds benefitting local missions. Quarts to go should be ordered by Sunday, Oct. 13, by calling 814-625-2182.

Bird Walks with The State College Bird Club — Tuesday, Oct. 15

The State College Bird Club is inviting participants to start off their day observing local birds from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center in State College. The bird walks are guided by members of the State College Bird Club and are open to all ages. Guests are asked to dress weather-ready and bring binoculars. The program is free but a donation of $5 per participant is encouraged and supports Millbrook Marsh Nature Center.

Life Recovery Meeting — Thursday, Oct. 17

There will be a Life Recovery Meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Access Church in State College. The group will go over the 12 steps of recovery, a set of biblical principles in substance use disorder treatment that outlines a plan of action for taking on drug and/or alcohol addiction.
