ROARING SPRING — Chris Warner shot 72, A.J. Corson finished with a 76 and the State College Area High School boys golf team pulled out a one-shot victory over Central Dauphin, 474-475, in a tri-match that was hosted by Hollidaysburg at Iron Masters Country Club on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Six golfers’ scores counted, and that made the difference for the Little Lions. State College’s Luke McGraw and Sam Shaner tied for eighth place with 80 rounds, while J.P. Hay and Ty Miller each reached the clubhouse in 83.
Brady Wager rounded out the State lineup with an 84.
Central Dauphin’s Joey Sembrot was medalist, finishing four shots lower than runner-up Warner.
Bloom medals again
HUNTINGDON — Bellefonte’s Isaak Bloom finished with the lowest score in a Laurel Highlands Conference match for the third time this season and Bald Eagle Area posted the third-best team score of the five full teams present at Huntingdon Country Club on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Neither Bellefonte nor Penns Valley had enough to compete as a team. Philipsburg-Osceola also was in action, going 1-3 with a score of 381 — Parker Lamb’s 88 fronted the Mounties.
Hollidaysburg won the match with a 324.
Bloom shot 74 to post the best individual score by three strokes.
BEA’s consistency led to the Eagles posting a 377 round. Wade Habovick led the way with a 91, followed by Kane Wolf with 93, West McClain with 95 and Joe Jones with 98.
P-O received a 90 from Jake Lucas and a 95 from Trey Doyle. Ryan Kolby and Nick Densmore rounded out the Mounties’ card with 108 and 119, respectively.
Gavin Shalfa finished in 99 shots for Bellefonte, and Joey Swentosky shot 114 for the Red Raiders. Hayden Feltenberger turned in Penns Valley’s best score of 106, followed by Ben Karc’s 122 and Trevor Bressler’s 125.
St. Joseph’s tops Altoona
BOALSBURG — St. Joseph’s scored an impressive win at Mountain View Golf Course on Aug. 29, besting visiting Altoona, 327-338, behind Maddie Koshko’s round of 69 and Haden Lingle’s 78.
Altoona is a Class 3A boys team.
Elliott Lingle carded an 82 for the WolfPack. Luke Duckworth finished out the scorecard for St. Joseph’s with a 98.
On Aug. 31, Koshko’s 81 was the second-lowest score and two other Wolves were under 100 for the 18 holes, but Millersburg, playing on its home course of Lykens Valley, came out on top of St. Joseph’s, 362-389, in a Tri-Valley Athletic Association match that also included full teams from East Juniata and Susquenita.
Haden Lingle handed in a 90 for St. Joseph’s, while Sam Krasowitz shot 98 and Tyler Kline 120. Millersburg’s Aiden Fulkroad topped the field with a round of 78.
The WolfPack finished third out of four teams in a hotly contested match on Monday, Aug. 28, at Scotch Valley Country Club. St. Joseph’s shot 341 as a team, one stroke better than Central Mountain but six shots off the pace of Hollidaysburg and four shots behind West Shamokin.
Koshko medaled by six shots with a 69. Haden Lingle finished with a 77, while Elliott Lingle shot 95 and Krasowitz 100.
Lady Mounties drop close one
CLEARFIELD — Behind Liv Hutton’s 52, the Philipsburg-Osceola girls almost scored a pair of victories on Aug. 29 at Clearfield-Curwensville Country Club. However, Hollidaysburg and Clearfield shot just a little better as teams.
Hollidaysburg picked up two victories with a score of 229, while Clearfield teamed for a 236. The Lady Mounties compiled a 239 round.
Maddyx Hampton shot 55 to finish second for the Lady Mounties and fourth overall. Hutton was one shot behind Hollidaysburg’s Lexi Peacock for medalist.
Madeline Bainey, Baylie Vroman and Bella Minarchick scored 65, 67 and 73 for Philipsburg-Osceola. The top four scores counted toward the team total.
