GRAYS WOODS — The State College Area School District Board of Directors unanimously approved a new principal for Gray’s Woods Elementary School during a meeting on Monday, Nov. 4. Gregg Wilson will step into the principal role following the departure of Kris Dewitt, who stepped down from the position to take on a principal job in Michigan.

“Gregg comes to us with extensive experience in elementary administration and is passionate about continuing to build Gray’s Woods Elementary’s long-standing positive culture,” Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Danielle Yoder shared in a statement from the school district.

“His strengths include his collaborative approach with all stakeholders and his strong commitment to building positive relationships with students and staff. Not only will he be an asset to the community of Gray’s Woods, but he will also be an integral part of our elementary administrative team, and we look forward to him joining us.”

Wilson holds a business education degree from Robert Morris University, a master’s degree in education from St. Francis University, principal certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from St. Francis.

From 2004 to 2012, he taught business education at Richland High School. During his time at Richland High School, Wilson helped with the school yearbook and newspaper and coached football and weightlifting. Since 2015, he has worked as a principal for Richland Elementary School in Johnstown.

Wilson served for eight years in the Army National Guard.

“I am truly honored and excited to join the Gray’s Woods Elementary School as the new principal,” Wilson said in a press release. “I look forward to meeting all of the stakeholders and learning more about what makes the school and community special. Together, I look forward to fostering growth, curiosity and a love for learning in our school community.”
