HOWARD — Every third Tuesday of the month, the chefs at the Hublersburg Inn have showcased a variety of foods at a chef’s dinner.
Built in 1827, the Hublersburg Inn, located at 449 Hublersburg Road in Howard, has served as a stop between Bellefonte and Lock Haven. However, when Andi Heidt bought the inn in 2007, it quickly became more of a destination restaurant.
The inn now offers events like live music on its patio, dinners for each holiday and its monthly chef’s dinner. The Hublersburg Inn provides its customers the experience of trying different cuisines from around the world.
Heidt takes inspiration from the places she has traveled to come up with different themes for each chef’s dinner. In 2024, the inn’s chef’s dinners included an Eat Pray Love dinner, Australian Wine dinner, Keystone dinner, Coast to Coast dinner, Bourbon and Cigar dinner, Low Country Boil, Guest Chef dinner, Farm-to-Table dinner, Spanish Wine dinner and an Italian Wine dinner. And most recently, it finished the year with two special holiday dinners.
“It was a great way for our chef and our kitchen staff and our front of the house staff to be able to show their skills to do something different than doing the same menu every day,” Heidt said. “I mean, we do change our regular menu fairly often, but it gives them a chance to, an opportunity to really like show other things that they can do.”
In January — when the Hublersburg Inn does not offer a chef’s dinner — the team takes time to plan the unique dining experiences that will take place through the year. Heidt noted that they try and change up some of the dinners, however, there are a few — like their Bourbon Cigar dinner and Low Country Boil dinner — that they do every year due to their popularity.
“Then a lot of them get based off of places I’ve traveled to and wine regions that I’ve been to,” Heidt said.
While planning, Heidt and the staff also take into account what holidays are around each third Tuesday of the month.
“So for instance, if the third Tuesday of the month happens to be Fat Tuesday, then we’ll do a Mardi Gras on that one, like a Mardi Gras theme, Cajun theme on that one,” Heidt said.
