STATE COLLEGE — Jason Kelce, former Philadelphia Eagles center, was involved in controversy following Penn State’s loss to Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 2.
On his way out of Beaver Stadium an unknown Penn State fan followed Kelce yelling homophobic slurs about his brother Travis Kelce and girlfriend Taylor Swift. Travis currently plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Kelce responded to the heckler by grabbing his phone and smashing it on the ground.
Videos of the interaction started to circulate on X, formerly Twitter, of a man chasing after Kelce, yelling “Hey, Kelce. How does it feel your brother’s a f—– dating Taylor Swift?”
The former center responded by grabbing the student’s phone and slamming it on the ground, while also yelling the slur back at him.
No physical contact involved.
Kelce responded about his actions on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown show three days later.
“Listen, I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it, and in a heated moment I choose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing. I really don’t,” Kelce said. “I don’t think that leads to discourse and it’s the right way to go about things. In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.”
He later added that he tries to live life by the golden rule, and that he was disappointed that he fell short this weekend.
As of the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 5, no repercussions have been stated for either Kelce or the man who initiated the interaction.
