The District 6 Class 4A champion State College boys soccer team breezed to two subregional wins over Brashear, 16-0, on Nov. 1 at home and Erie, 5-1, on Nov. 4 at Cathedral Prep Dollinger Field.

The Little Lions were the only Centre County soccer team left playing in the postseason.

No results were reported for the rout of Brashear — the Little Lions’ third straight shutout — but they went ahead 1:08 into the game at Erie on an own goal. State College’s Colin Murphy scored the second goal.

Will Kongelmann made it 3-0 following an Erie turnover in the defensive end. Kongelmann scored again on a deflected shot, making it 4-0.

After Erie’s Hamsa Elsayed scored, State College’s Chase Zhou set the final score with a goal.

The Little Lions (15-1-4) were scheduled to host District 7 runner-up North Allegheny (16-2-3) on Nov. 7.  The winner faces the winner of District 3 champion Cumberland Valley and District 1 sixth-placer Central Bucks South.

LADY RAIDERS CAPTURE FIRST DISTRICT 6 TITLE

The top-seeded Bellefonte girls team captured its first District 6 Class 3A title in thrilling fashion with a 2-1 double overtime win (4-3 in the shootout) over second-seeded Hollidaysburg on Oct. 31 at Bald Eagle Area.

But the Lady Red Raiders’ season ended with a 2-1 loss to District 9 champion Bradford on Nov. 4 at home in a subregional game.

In the district title game, Hollidaysburg held a 1-0 lead and was heading toward a win when Brooke Whitman scored with 1:30 left in regulation.

“It was the best feeling ever,” Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller told the Altoona Mirror. “Brooke tore her ACL last year against Hollidaysburg in the championship game. For her to work her way back and hit that goal against Hollidaysburg and put us into overtime, it’s the best story that could have been written.”

After both teams went scoreless in the two overtimes, Bellefonte’s Adalie Pringle, Hannah Patterson, Madyson Miller and Mackenzie Mamolen slipped shots into the net.

Chloe Stoehr’s second-half goal gave Hollidaysburg the lead. Stoehr, Sophia Blescia and Bailey Stoehr scored in the shootout. Bellefonte goalkeeper Keira Whitman made a big leaping save in overtime.

All of the goals in the subregional were scored in the first half. Junior Angelina Kasak scored Bellefonte’s goal, with the assist by Laila Packer. Whitman made 14 saves in the loss.

Bellefonte finished with a 14-4-1 record.

P-O SUFFERS 2 OT LOSS IN CHAMPIONSHIP

After surviving a double overtime win on Oct. 30 at Cambria Heights in the District 6 Class 2A semifinals, the third-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola boys team suffered a 4-3 double overtime loss to fourth-seeded Penn Cambria in the championship game on Nov. 2 at Hollidaysburg.

Carson Long scored two goals for P-O, finishing with a school record 41 goals for the season, while Aaron Henninger scored the third, tying the game with 37 seconds left in regulation on a header off a Hank Hazelton corner kick. P-O’s Matt Thompson made 10 saves, while Penn Cambria’s Duncan Gongloff had 17.

“Our preseason goal was to play in the District 6 championship,” P-O coach Ryan Long said. “We achieved that goal. Obviously, we wanted to win this game and overall, I thought we were in control of the game.

“Carson was dangerous all night long for us. Matt Thompson made probably three or four game-saving saves late in the game. He was phenomenal. Unfortunately, a few bounces didn’t go our way. In the end, it was a victory just being there in that D6 championship game.”

P-O finished with an 11-8-1 record.

LADY EAGLES TAKE SECOND

The third-seeded Bald Eagle Area girls team’s season ended with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Bishop Guilfoyle in the District 6 Class A championship game on Nov. 1 at Altoona’s Mansion Park.

BEA goalkeeper Makayla Spicer made 12 saves in the loss.

“It was a really nice season,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “The girls played very hard tonight. BG is a good team and has a lot of talent. We had some nice chances that we didn’t convert on and that made a lot of the difference. The defense was really solid all game. Everyone gave a huge effort and should not hang their heads.”

The Lady Eagles finished with a 9-9-1 mark.

RAIDERS FALL TO TIGERS IN TITLE GAME

The second-seeded Bellefonte boys team’s season ended with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Hollidaysburg in the District 6 Class 3A title game on Oct. 31 at Bald Eagle Area’s Alumni Stadium.

The Red Raiders finished with a 12-5-1 record.

LADY LITTLE LIONS LOSE TO ALTOONA

The second-seeded State College girls team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Altoona in the District 6 Class 4A title game on Oct. 31 at Hollidaysburg.

The Lady Little Lions finished with a 1-17 record.
