The Penns Valley girls soccer team got two second-half goals to beat rival Bald Eagle Area, 2-0, on Oct. 9 at home.

Olivia Homan and Scotty Dinges scored for the Lady Rams in the second half. Penns Valley goalkeeper Chamiqua Gentzel made eight saves to earn the shutout. BEA keeper Makayla Spicer made five saves.

“We collectively had two lapses as a team, and Penns Valley cashed in on both of them,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “Offensively we had flashes of brilliance, but ultimately couldn’t put it quite together.”

BEA went 1-1 last week, shutting out Huntingdon, 2-0, and getting shut out by Clearfield, 1-0, in double overtime.

On Oct. 3 at Huntingdon, BEA’s Sybil Thompson scored both goals. Khloe Thompson assisted on the first goal at 30:06 and Claudia Irvin assisted on the second goal at 42:15.

Spicer made eight saves in recording the shutout.

“We did well tonight on defense, stopping whatever Huntingdon threw at us,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “We stepped to the ball well and won the 50/50 balls. Claudia Irvin and Khloe Cunningham were workhorses, making run after run and stretching out their back line.

“It really opened up the midfield and allowed us to find scoring opportunities. Sybil netted a brace and made the finishes when we needed them. It was just a solid team performance.”

BEA won the junior varsity game, 2-0, getting goals from Savanna Albright and Lydia Walk.

The Lady Eagles made nine shots on goal against Clearfield on Oct. 5 at home, but goalkeeper Mia Helsel made the stops. Clearfield won with an Emily McCracken unassisted goal at the 93:02 mark. Spicer made five saves in goal for BEA.

The Lady Rams (6-8), who lost at Bishop Guilfoyle, 2-0, on Oct. 3 and edged Huntingdon, 2-1, at home on Oct. 5, were to host Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 10 and visit Hollidaysburg on Oct. 12.

BEA (6-6-1) was to host Bellefonte Oct. 10 and visit Tyrone on Oct. 12.

LADY RED RAIDERS GO OT TWICE

The Bellefonte girls team split two overtime games last week, winning at Hollidaysburg, 4-3, and losing to Central, 2-1, at home.

Angelina Kasak earned the hat trick against Hollidaysburg, scoring three goals and assisting on Sydney Miller’s goal. Laila Packer and Madyson Miller had the other assists. Bellefonte goalkeeper Keira Whitman made 10 saves in victory.

Kasak scored the Lady Red Raiders’ goal against Central in the second half on an unassisted boot. Whitman made six saves in goal.

Central’s Kira Trexler scored the game winner 1:08 into the overtime on a penalty kick.

The Lady Red Raiders (10-2-1) were to visit Bald Eagle Area on Oct. 10 and Huntingdon on Oct. 12.

LADY MOUNTIES GO 0-2

The Philipsburg-Osceola girls team was shut out twice last week, 1-0 by Central and 5-0 by Hollidaysburg.

Central’s Kira Trexler scored early at 15:20. P-O goalkeeper Kinley Bender made six saves in the game. The P-O offense could only muster four shots on goal, and Central’s Lacey Ripka made two saves.

“The girls gave a good effort tonight, but we couldn’t manufacture enough shots,” P-O coach Joe Matson said. “That’s been a struggle of ours for several games now.”

Hollidaysburg’s Chloe Stoeher scored three goals against P-O. The Lady Golden Tigers outshot P-O, 16-3. Hollidaysburg goalkeeper Natalie Foster made three saves.

The Lady Mounties (6-7), whose Oct. 7 game against Moshannon Valley was postponed, were to play at Penns Valley on Oct. 10 and at Clearfield on Oct. 12.
