CENTRE COUNTY — The State College girls basketball team lost its first Mid Penn Conference game to Cumberland Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and was on the ropes late in the game against another Mid Penn foe three nights later.
But seven different Little Lady Lions scored points in the fourth quarter as SC notched a dramatic come-from-behind, 45-44 victory over Central Dauphin at home on Friday, Jan. 10.
The Lions were down the entire game to the Lady Rams after a cold first quarter put them playing catch up from the very beginning.
Behind by six heading into the fourth quarter, State College put together a comeback led by Jessica Hawbaker’s 5 points and a big 3-pointer by Sienna Wilson.
Also scoring in the quarter were Deseray Mobley, McKenna Whitehurst, Sheree Wilson, Lydia Tate and Tori Risha as the Lions went on a 16-9 run and gutted out the 1-point win.
Hawbaker was the only SC player in double-figures with 13, but Sheree Wilson added 8 and Sienna Wilson and Tate each scored 7.
The win was the 11th overall for the Lions and the sixth in the Mid Penn against one loss.
State College is presently tied for first place in the conference with Altoona.

PENNS VALLEY PREVAILS OVER BEA AND P-O BUT FALLS TO CLEARFIELD
The Penns Valley Lady Rams are now 7-5 overall after two wins over local LHAC rivals Bald Eagle Area and P-O along with an close, up-and-down loss at Clearfield on Monday, Jan. 13.
Playing at home against 3-6 BEA, the Rams defense held the Bald Eagles to just 12 first-half points, and then PV sprinted home with a 58-30 victory.
The score was 35-12 at halftime and 49-25 going into the fourth quarter as the Rams closed out their sixth win of the season.
Penns Valley put three players in double figures with Ellie Romig and Elle Dinges scoring 12 and Jadyn Alexander adding 10.
The next night at P-O, the Rams again took control early and rode out to a 63-22 victory over the Lady Mounties.
Sydnie Dalton led the Rams in this one with 14 points while Paige Johnson and Jordan Johnson each scored 10. Romig added 9.
P-O was paced by Lily Warlow with 6 points.
On Monday, at Clearfield in another LHAC contest, the Lady Bison sprinted out to a big, 10-point lead after the first quarter but then had to hold on tight for a 74-68 win over PV.
Penns Valley chipped away at the Clearfield lead but ran out of time when the Rams had gotten to within six points.
Sydnie Dalton scored 15 points for PV with Romig adding 14 and Paige Johnson getting 11.
Clearfield’s Sonny Deihl and Hannah Glunt combined to score 54 points for the Bison.
The loss left Penns Valley with an overall record of 7-5 and a 6-4 mark in the LHAC.

BELLEFONTE GIRLS UPENDED BY BEA AT HOME ON MONDAY
The Bellefonte girls basketball team got off to a cold start against LHAC rival Bald Eagle Area on Monday, Jan. 13, and eventually fell 46-32.
Down by 9 points, 17-8, after the first quarter, the Lady Raiders were never able to make up the deficit and suffered their seventh loss of the season.
The win for Bald Eagle Area was the fourth of the season against six losses and the fourth in five games.
Since going 0-5 to begin the season, BEA has beaten P-O twice, East Juniata and Bellefonte.
Sybil Thompson is the leading scorer for the season so far for BEA, and she is followed closely by Kinsey Clark.
Lexi Fravel scored nine points to lead Bellefonte while Thompson scored 20 to lead the winning Bald Eagles.

SJCA NOW 12-1 AFTER WINS OVER HALIFAX AND MILLERSBURG
The Lady WolfPack won their third and fourth consecutive games this past week with wins over Halifax and Millersburg.
Against Haliax, SJCA jumped out to an overwhelming 34-point lead after just one quarter and coasted home from there.
The team put three players in double figures led by Naomi Crispin with 18 and Lauren Himes with 16.
Then, on Monday, Jan. 13, at home against Millersburg, the WolfPack used the same formula and turned in their 12th win of the season with a 58-12 victory.
This time leading by 29 points at halftime, SJCA was led by Crispin and Hines who both scored 12 points. Eight players in all scored for SJCA.
Coming up this week for the team will be a home game on Thursday, Jan. 16, against Susquenita followed by a big showdown at Williamsburg on Friday, Jan. 17.
