STATE COLLEGE — A new Mediterranean restaurant is joining the downtown State College food scene.

Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, a chain specializing in Mediterranean bowls, flatbread wraps and pita pockets, plans on opening a location at 348 E. Calder Way on the ground level of The Maxxen, formerly known as HERE State College.https://s0.2mdn.net/sadbundle/4475982620458221334/index.htmlMarcus Invest. It will set up shop next door to El Jefe’s Taqueria, which opened in May.

The restaurant’s menu includes invites customers to create their own wraps, bowls and pita pockets by choosing greens and grains, proteins and toppings, including chicken shawarma, hummus, lamb, and a slew of sauces. Mezeh also offers fresh-baked pita bread and a line of drinks that are made without added sugar, GMOs and other additives.

Although no opening date has been announced, Mezeh’s website confirms the State College location is “coming soon.” The chain already operates 17 locations in Virginia, 10 locations in Maryland, and six locations in North Carolina. State College’s restaurant will be Mezeh’s second in Pennsylvania, joining one franchise located near the King of Prussia Mall.

Forbes reported this summer that the Annapolis, Maryland-based company recently secured funding to open up to 50 new locations.

According to its website, Mezeh is not yet hiring for its State College location.

A Mezeh spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday morning regarding the restaurant’s opening.
