CENTRE COUNTY — Mount Nittany Health announced the most popular baby names of 2024 in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Mount Nittany Medical Center, which noted they welcome around 1,200 babies each year at the facility, additionally spoke on the importance of newborn sleep safety.
In 2024, the top boy baby names included Oliver, Brooks, Leo, Theodore, Ethan, Parker, Silas, John and Wesley. For baby girls, the top names were Lainey, Ava, Grace, Evelyn, Harper, Ellie, Emma, Ivy, Quinn and Scarlett.
In support of the babies born at Mount Nittany Medical Center, the Women and Children’s Unit launched a new initiative aimed at promoting safe sleep practices for infants.
As a part of the initiative, upon discharge, every newborn received a sleep sack which, according to Mount Nittany Health, is “a simple yet effective tool in reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensures babies sleep safely at home.”
“Our team is dedicated to supporting families with the resources they need to give their little ones the best start in life,” Jessica Lewis, manager of Women and Children’s Services with Mount Nittany Health, shared in a statement. “The sleep sack program is one more way we’re helping to protect and nurture our youngest patients.”
Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Pediatric Hospitalist Dr. Rachel Joseph also noted on the importance of children sleep safety.
“Establishing safe sleep habits from the start is one of the most important things families can do to protect their newborns,” Joseph said. “The sleep sacks we provide are a simple and effective way to reduce blankets in the sleep environment, thus helping to reduce the risk of SIDS.”
