INDIANAPOLIS — Penn State traveled to Indianapolis on Saturday, Dec. 7, to take on No. 1 Oregon in the Big Ten Championship. The Nittany Lions battled from down 18 to make it a one score game but could not finish the job falling 45-37.
Penn State’s offense flaunted its completeness rushing for 292 yards and passing for 226 yards.
Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton both recorded over 100 yards in the game. Singleton had 104 in just 10 carries while Allen had 124 in 14 touches. Allar also added 54 yards. With an astonishing 8.3 yards per carry on the day, Penn State proved to the country it has one of the best rushing attacks around.
“I think that’s the credit to the offensive line as well, especially getting the engine going on our front side of our, just midzone to outside zone plays, and allowing Nick and Kaytron to not get hit until they were on the second and third level,” Allar said.
The quarterback had himself an impressive game as well, with multiple throws that created something out of nothing. The most noticeable came on fourth down with under four minutes on the clock.
Allar moved around in the pocket creating space and delivered a 14-yard lazar to Harrison Wallace in the endzone while getting hit.
Allar finished the game 20 for 39 with 226 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
“The other things we’ve got to get eliminated. And then the turnovers, two turnovers to zero,” head coach James Franklin said. “We won pretty much every major statistic besides that. But since the beginning of time, turnover ratio is significant, maybe the most important stat in all of college football.”
In the end, Oregon’s offense was the difference maker in the championship game, scoring 45 points seemingly at will. Tez Johnson led the way for the Ducks with 11 receptions for 181 and a touchdown.
Heisman finalist Dillon Gabriel also played well with 283 yards and two touchdowns.
Once again, the Ducks proved they are one of, if not the most, complete team in college football.
Penn State will now focus on the College Football Playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 21. The Nittany Lions are set to take on SMU in the first round of the new expanded field.
