UNIVERSITY PARK — No. 27 Penn State women’s gymnastics placed 11th in the Big Ten championships on Saturday, March 22, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The night started off on the beam, where Ashley Maul tied her career best score of 9.875, followed by Dani Latronicathe recording the same. The best score of the event came from Maddie Johnston with a 9.9, resulting in a total score of 49.075 on the Beam.
The second routine was the floor where Penn State scored a 48.975 thanks to Alyssa Kramer’s 9.9 and Elizabeth Leary and Bella Misiura’s 9.825. No upperclassman performed on the floor with the Nittany Lions utilizing four freshmen and two sophomores.
Johnston opened the next event, vault, with a 9.85 performance. Leary, just a freshman, also showed off on the vault, scoring a 9.8. The Nittany Lions then moved to the final routine of the day, bars. Johnston, Latronica, Cassi Barbanete, Leary and Gallentine all posted high scores, resulting in a 49.150 team score.
Leary was the only one to place in the all-around results with a cumulative score of 39.255. This was the 10th time this season she has been in all-arounds.
The Nittany Lions now await the 2025 NCAA Regional Tournament seeds, where they are hopeful to get a bid. Regardless of if they make it or not, the tournament will be hosted in State College on Wednesday, April 2, Thursday, April 3 and Saturday, April 5 at Rec Hall.
