Phyllis Triolo 2022 Music Competition winners announced

UNIVERSITY PARK — The 38th Phyllis Triolo Music Competition was held in person this year in Esber Recital Hall at the Penn State School of Music. Students representing central Pennsylvania competed in two divisions.

Aaron Le, a piano student from State College and understudy of Dea Baba, took first place in the junior division. Alexander Yu, a piano student from State College and student of Christopher Guzman, placed second, followed by third-place winner Evan Zhang, also of State College, and a student of James Lyon. William Liu of State College, a piano student of Qing Liu, received honorable mention.

In the senior division, Jedidiah Yang, a piano student from State College and understudy of Dea Baba, was awarded first place. Maggie Yang, a piano student from State College and student of Kristin Stephenson, was second, followed by Paul Rose, a piano student of Steven Smith and also from State college, who placed third.

Judges for the competition were Gerardo Edelstein and Ian Duh, both from the PSU School of Music, and Steven Smith, retired from PSU School of Music.

The competition was sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association (www.CPMTA.org) and chaired by Victoria Petrosky, Ian Duh and Patricia Lloyd.
