WEXFORD — Quiana Guo’s match at first singles was the only one to get to three sets as the State College Area High School girls tennis team lost for the first time in 18 contests this season, falling 5-0 to District 7 champion Mount Lebanon in the first round of PIAA Class 3A playoff action on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at North Allegheny High School.
State College was the District 4-6 champion.
Guo won the first set against Sophia Cunningham, 6-0, before Cunningham came back for a 7-6 (6) win in the second. Cunningham then claimed the match, 10-6, in the third.
Both of the Lady Little Lions other singles players were competitive in the opening set. Kelly Steel fell to Jessie Yang, 6-3, 6-0, while Allison Norloff came out on the short end against Jackie Tang, 6-4, 6-1.
In first doubles, State’s Abby Chen and Emily Zhang dropped a 6-2, 6-1 verdict to Michelle Yang and Carley Grant. Juju Dye and Ephrasinia Shimelis were defeated, 6-1, 6-0, by Sylvie Erickson and Ana Clara.
Guo will complete the Lady Little Lions’ season when she competes in the PIAA girls singles tournament on Nov. 4 at Hershey Racquet Club.
