The day after Black Friday, small and local businesses are given the opportunity to shine with Small Business Saturday.
The campaign for Small Business Saturday was started by American Express in 2010. However, it wasn’t until 2011 that the holiday became official with the support of Washington state government and former President Barack Obama.
In 2012, American Express shoppers spent a total of $5.5 billion during Small Business Saturday. The number of money spent each year has grown since.
In Centre County, there are plenty of small businesses to celebrate the day with. Here are some small businesses in Centre County that you can check out for your holiday shopping this Small Business Saturday.

In order to participate, purchase a Shop Small Crawl Tote. Participants have between Monday, Nov. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 19, to go to all the small businesses on their list. At each stop, participants can ask for a button. The customer with the most buttons will receive a $250 gift card for #LoveBFT.
