STATE COLLEGE — State College Area High boys volleyball season has begun as the team looks to improve on its 0.50 record in 2024.

In 2024, the Little Lions struggled to open the boys volleyball season, losing its first four matches of the year. Despite that, the team fought back and went on an eight game unbeaten streak to help save the season.

This year, State College has started the same way, falling in both of its opening matchups.

The first of the year was against Central Dauphin, a fellow Mid Penn conference opponent. The Little Lions started strong and won the first set 25-23 but went on to lose the next three sets to fall 3-1 in the season opener.

Two days later on Thursday, March 20, State College took on Cumberland Valley, the first place team in the Mid Penn conference. Similar to the first match, the Little Lions struggled to find consistent offense and lost 3-0.

The Little Lions went on to face off against Carlisle on Tuesday, March 25 and Altoona on Thursday, March 27 for their next two matches. The results of the game against Carlisle were not available at the time of The Gazette’s publishing deadline. They took down Carlisle once last season and faced Altoona four separate times.
