STATE COLLEGE — From Friday, Oct. 25, to Sunday, Oct. 27, the 25th annual Tussey Moutainback race weekend is set to take place.

The Tussey Moutainback is a relay style 50-mile loop through Pennsylvania’s Rothrock State Forest. Teams can consist of two to eight athletes including men, women or both. The relay teams will compete against other teams of the same size.

Registration for the 50-mile race ended on Saturday, Oct. 5. The other events closed on Saturday, Oct. 12.

This year’s event will also introduce a 100-mile ultramarathon race, a half marathon and a kids’ race.

Volunteers are needed for the event to happen and run smoothly. Those interested in helping can visit the volunteer page of www.tusseymountainback.com or email [email protected]. No prior experience is needed.

Proceeds from the Mountainback will support the Centre Region Down Syndrome Society.

The organization was established in 2006 and has carried the mission, to provide individuals with Down syndrome and their families with the tools, resources and support necessary to participate in, contribute to and achieve personal fulfillment. October is the National Down syndrome Awareness Month.

The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, among others, is a sponsor of the event.

The Mountainback also hosts an informal group run series called the Discovery Training Series through Saturday, Oct. 19. The run will cover the entire 50-mile loop one portion at a time. It takes place on Saturdays.
