UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State tight end, Tyler Warren continued his historic season on Saturday, Nov. 9, against Washington, breaking two more Penn State records. After a less productive game than usual against Ohio State, Warren got back on track this week with eight receptions for 75 yards.

Late in the game, Drew Allar found Warren on the 3-yard line for a 2-yard gain. It was just another routine catch for Warren, but it also pushed him to 681 receiving yards for the season — the most ever by a Penn State tight end.

The record was previously 679 held by Mike Gesicki, who was taken in the second round of the National Football League draft in 2018 by the Miami Dolphins. He now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.

That catch also meant 59 receptions in the season, another Penn State record for tight ends. The record of 58 was also held by Gesicki prior to Warren breaking it.

“To be in that conversation with as many great tight ends who have played here and that I played with is special to me,” Warren said. “That’s kind of what makes it special, knowing the guys that have been here and how talented Penn State tight ends are. That’s kind of why it means so much to me.”

Warren holds more than just those two records though, his 17 receptions against USC earlier this year tied the FBS record for catches by a tight end in a single game. He now shares this record with Northwestern’s Jon Harvey from 1982 and New Mexico’s Emilio Valley from 1967.

In that same game he recorded 224 receiving yards which set a Penn State and Big Ten tight end record. Warren was also the first FBS tight end to go over 200 receiving yards in a game since Utah’s Dalton Kincaid had 234 receiving yards against USC on Oct. 15, 2022.

“I’ve got a list here of about 35 records that Tyler Warren has broken. I’m not going to get into all of them, but he’s a really good football player,” head coach James Franklin said. “I can’t see how this guy doesn’t win the Mackey Award and the Paul Hornung Award. I don’t see how he doesn’t. And they’d be proud of that guy representing their award, because he does everything right both on and off the field.”

The Mackey or John Mackey Award is presented annually to the nation’s best tight end. Recent winners include Mark Andrews, Brock Bowers, T.J. Hockenson and Kyle Pitts. Warren was named a semifinalist for the award on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The Paul Hornung Award recognizes and rewards the most versatile and high-level performers in major college football. Travis Hunter, Christian McCaffery, and Saquan Barkley are all past winners. Warren was named to the finalist list alongside Travis Hunter and Isaac Brown.

Both awards winners will be named in December.
