STATE COLLEGE — The State College Area High School boys’ tennis team didn’t even need wins from its first and second singles players to punch its ticket into the District 6 Class 3A championship match.

Daniel Xu and the doubles pairings of Luke Shaha and David Chong and Isaac Dye and Jerry Zhang only dropped eight games combined as the top-seeded Little Lions turned back No. 4 Altoona, 3-0, in the district semifinal match on Monday, May 9.

Hollidaysburg defeated Central Mountain in the other semifinal.

Dye and Zhang were 6-1, 6-0 winners against Mason Crownover and Dan Batrus in No. 2 doubles, while Shaha and Chong stopped Brady Sassano and Nick Hogan, 6-1, 6-2, in the first doubles contest.

Xu defeated Kadyn Cherry, 6-2, 6-2 to push State College’s team record to 13-2.

Because the team match had been decided, the first and second singles matches were abandoned. At No. 2, Mark Sandow was leading Josh Adams, 6-4, 3-2. No. 1 Matt Labosky was down to Luke Mitchell, 7-5, 2-1.
