BELLEFONTE — Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna ran as the only Democrat for DA during the May 18 primary election.
After he received a majority of the 728 Republican write-in votes on the without-candidate ballot, he accepted the GOP nomination as well.
June 3 marked the second time he filed for and accepted the Republican nomination for the county’s top law enforcer.
Cantorna has been in office since 2018. He received a total of 11,706 votes in the Democratic primary.
“I appreciate and value the bipartisan support of the citizens of Centre County,’’ said Cantorna.
“The district attorney’s job is not meant to be political, it is to seek justice in each individual case and insure that our community is safe and lives are improved.”
Recognizable local names receiving Republican write-in votes included former State College police officer and Penn State criminal justice professor Gregory Koehle, with seven votes; Michael Madeira, senior deputy attorney general, four votes; and Stacy Parks-Miller, former Centre County DA, four votes.
Former President Donald Trump was penciled in on six of Centre County’s GOP ballots, which also saw votes for Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Betty White and Alfred E. Neuman.
