A new outdoor concert series featuring some of the area’s top local bands will kick off this summer in downtown State College.

The Downtown State College Improvement is partnering with local music promoter The Band Junkies for the weekly series “Live After 5” from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday from July 1 through Sept. 9 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza on South Fraser Street.

“Live After 5” events are free and family-friendly.

“The community is ready to celebrate and welcome summer!” Lee Anne Jeffries, DSCID executive director, said in a statement. “We are happy to provide an opportunity for local musicians to share their talent and a place for our residents to enjoy live music, pop in for a bite to eat and support our downtown merchants.”

Jeffries said she hopes the event will be a springboard for community members to explore downtown shopping, dining and arts venues.

The lineup through Aug. 26:

July 1 – The Corner Brothers
July 8 – Anchor & Arrow
July 15 – Donny Burns Duo
July 22 – Midstate Select
July 29 – The Kristi Jean Trio
Aug. 5 – Caledonia
Aug. 12 – Canary
Aug. 19 – Caryn Dixon and Jaoh
Aug. 26 – Tightrope (featuring Chris Bell)
