The boards of directors in State College Area and Bellefonte Area school districts were among the most prominent races in this year’s municipal election, with four seats up for grabs and six candidates on the ballot in both contests.
In State College, cross-filed candidates Deborah Anderson and Peter Buck and Democratic candidates Carline Crevecoeur and Jackie Huff held leads for the four seats over Republican candidates Michelle Glenn Young and incumbent David Hutchinson as of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday with all precincts countywide partially reporting.
If those results hold, the four leading candidates would be first-time school board members and Crevecouer would be the first Black woman elected to the State College Area School Board.
In Bellefonte, meanwhile, the Win 4 Bellefonte ticket appeared on its way to victory with its candidates — cross-filed candidates Andrea Royer and incumbent Jeffrey Steiner and Republicans Jack Bechdel and incumbent Jon Guizar — in the lead with at least double the vote totals of Democratic candidates Rodney Musser and Jordan Emely.
About 8,700 countywide mail-in ballots received by Election Day were included in the results on Tuesday night, according to Centre County Board of Commissioners Chair Michael Pipe. Remaining mail ballots received by 8 p.m. Tuesday will be counted on Wednesday.
Here’s where the races for the two school boards stand as of Tuesday night. Election results are unofficial until certified.
