When some friends went by Jean Tuggy’s residence in Ferguson Township on Jan. 21 to check on her, they found that the 61-year-old had died.

Police responded to the Irion Street residence in Pine Grove Mills at 2:47 p.m. that day and found no signs of forced entry at the home, and it didn’t appear that a robbery had occurred.

However, when an autopsy was performed the following the day, Tuggy’s death was ruled a homicide. The cause of death has not yet been released, but county coroner Scott Sayers did tell the Centre Daily Times that ‘there was some trauma to the body.’

Ferguson Township police said in a press release that the last contact with the victim was on Jan. 20, and that the investigation into her death is ongoing with assistance from the county district attorney’s office and state police.

Anyone who may have any information they believe will assist with the investigation is asked to call the Ferguson Township Police Department at 1-800-479-0050,’ police said.
