Multiple fire crews responded to the scene of a fire on Wednesday afternoon at the Cadillac Building, 207 S. Allegheny St. in Bellefonte.

Maintenance personnel replacing a light found smoke in the attic at about 12:30 p.m. Firefighters discovered a fire between the third-floor ceiling and attic and later between the walls, according to Undine Fire Company Captain Malachi Moyer.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The upper floors appear to have experienced moderate smoke and water damage.

Four or five residents were temporarily displaced, according to Undine Fire Company. Residents of the building seeking shelter were directed to the Centre County YMCA Bellefonte branch, 125 W. High St.

Bishop and Allegheny streets in the area of the building were closed for several hours until crews left the scene late Wednesday afternoon

Logan, Undine, Citizens, Pleasant Gap, Walker and Alpha fire companies responded to the scene.

The century-old Cadillac Building was gutted by a devastating fire in December 2009. It was later restored as the Cadillac House of Bellefonte Mews, an affordable housing apartment complex.
