The site of the defunct Imperial Motor Inn in downtown State College has been sold.
Smith Coal Company sold the property at 118 S. Atherton St. to W Real Estate Holding LLC for $3.1 million, according to Centre County records. The deed transfer was recorded with the county on May 22.
W Real Estate Holding has the same Mountoursville address as Welteroth Property Group, which owns several other commercial properties in the State College area, including the former Autoport property on South Atherton Street. Welteroth and Concordia Hospitality submitted plans earlier this year for a Hilton Home2 Suites hotel to be constructed on a portion of the Autoport land.
Welteroth representatives did not return phone and email messages seeking comment about plans for the former Imperial Motor Inn property.
Smith Coal Company had owned the 118 S. Atherton St. property since 1963. In 1964, it entered a 65-year-lease with Imperial Motor Inn, which was known as Imperial ‘400’ Motel at the time.
According to county records, Smith Coal Company and the motel’s most recent leaseholder mutually agreed to terminate the lease in March.
The motel has been shuttered since early 2019 and its parking lot has been used for the past year as work site parking for construction of The Standard mixed-use high-rise across the street at the corner of South Atherton Street and West College Avenue.
