With mail voting underway and primary election day three weeks away, voters will have an opportunity during a forum this week to learn more about the candidates in several local races.
The League of Women Voters of Centre County will host Primary Candidates’ Night at 7 p.m. Thursday. Candidates will participate via Zoom and the forum will be broadcast live on C-NET channel 7 and online at cnet1.org.
Only candidates in opposed primaries are invited to participate in Candidates’ Night.
Following a brief welcome and explanation of the format the schedule is as follows:
7:05 p.m. Bellefonte Borough Council Ward 2 (Republican)
7:15 p.m. Bellefonte Area Board of School Directors (Cross-filed)
7:40 p.m. State College Borough Mayor (Democrat)
7:55 p.m. State College Borough Council (Democrat)
8:40 p.m. State College Area Board of School Directors (Cross-filed)
Candidates for each race are asked six questions and have 60 seconds to respond to each question. They are then given 90 seconds for a closing statement.
In the Bellefonte Ward 2 race, Randall Brachbill and Barbara Dann are seeking the Republican nomination. No candidates filed on the Democratic Ballot.
For Bellefonte School Board, six cross-filed candidates are vying for four nominations on each: Jon Guizar, Rodney Musser, Jordan Emely, Jack Bechdel II, Jeffrey Steiner and Andrea Royer.
Two Democrats are running to become State College’s next mayor: Jim Leous and Ezra Nanes. No candidates filed for the Republican ballot.
The State College Borough Council race has six Democrats seeking three seats up for election: Richard Biever, Ronald Filippelli, B. Divine Lipscomb, Gopal Balachandran, Katherine Yeaple and Catherine Dauler. Only one candidate, Jacob Werner, is filed on the Republican ballot.
Seven cross-filed candidates are seeking four positions on the State College School Board: Peter Buck, Deborah Anderson, Carline Crevecoeur, David K. Hutchinson, Michelle Glenn Young, Jackie Huff and Dawn Lorenz.
