Students at Mount Nittany Middle School may soon see an upgrade in their school’s security system.
The school has been nominated for a Together For Safer School’s grant from Stanley Security. If the school wins first place, it would receive $200,000 worth of security items and services.
To win, the school has to rake in the most votes on stanleysaferschools.com. You can vote up until Dec. 13.
There will also be three runners-up who will win $100,000 in security supplies and services.
Spokesperson for the State College Area School District, Julie Miller, says the school was nominated by its principal Brian Ishler. She says the nomination didn’t spring from a perceived lack of proper security in the school.
Ishler says the grant would be a good way to get some new resources without having to put the burden on the taxpayer.
“The school does have a buzzer system, locked doors during school year and security cameras,” Miller says. “The school is just taking advantage of a chance to win the grant.”
Miller says she does not know exactly what the products and services are that will be included, but she says that there are about 65 pages of schools that have applied for the same grant.
