David “Jake” J.E. Hosterman, 75, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville. He was affectionately known as “Jake” to his friends and family. Born on October 20, 1947, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late David J. and Grace (Johnstonbaugh) Hosterman. On August 6, 1966, he married his best friend, Linda L. (Weber) Hosterman, who preceded him in death on September 23, 2020, after sharing over 54 years of marriage together. 

Dave was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He was employed by the Penn State University Swine Research Center. He was very dedicated to his work and loved being able to work with the animals. He retired after 38 years of service. 

He is survived by his three sons, Bryan E. Hosterman (Fawn), Troy L. Hosterman (Angela), and Todd L. Hosterman (Kerri), all of Bellefonte, four grandchildren, Chelsea (Jason), Alexis, Kaitlynne, and Braxton, and three great grandchildren, Gavin, Olivia, and Jackson. Also surviving are two brothers, Clay Hosterman (Pam) of Bellefonte, and Dean Hosterman (Pam) of West Milton. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary E. Hosterman. 

Jake was an avid outdoorsman, spending time hunting and fishing whenever possible. For the past 60 years, he especially enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada. 

Dave was an active and loyal member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. He was very close to his church family and held those relationships very dear to his heart. He was also active on various committees, led the maintenance operation for a period, and helped with the landscaping crew over the years. 

Dave was a Free Mason for 50 years, belonging to The Old Fort Lodge No. 537. During that time, he served as Worshipful Grand Master on several occasions. Later in life, Dave became involved in the Eastern Star after his wife joined. 

A public viewing will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte, with a Masonic Service beginning at 8:00 PM. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte, with an Eastern Star Service beginning at 11:00 AM, at the church, followed by the funeral services with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Centre County Memorial Park.
