Matthew D. Brooks, 38, of Osceola Mills, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 27, 2023. Born on October 6, 1984, in Philipsburg, he was the son of Charles Smith of Scranton and Leslie (Brooks) Vonada of Clearfield.

Matthew attended Bald Eagle Area High School and earned his GED in 2002. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Bellefonte and was extremely proud of his Baptism at the age of 14. He worked at various jobs in the area, most recently was at the Helix Poly (the bag plant in Milesburg).

Matthew was an avid fisherman. He would go fishing anytime he could, even stopping at his favorite spot before work to do a little fishing. He enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the flowing streams. He loved to play baseball, play video games, camping, listening to music, and partying with his friends. He treasured family gatherings and spending time with his children. He dabbled in poetry and would write special poems to his family and friends. He was a member of the Clarence Moose.

Matthew is survived by his father, “Chuck”; his mother, Leslie and her companion, Gordan Martell; his companion, Patricia Lyn Meeker; one son, Landon J. Poorman and his fiancé, Ashley, of Aaronsburg; and one daughter, Bailee M. Brooks of Clarence. He is also survived by two sisters; Erin Vonada and her companion, George Padisak, of Clarence, and Kaylee Harter and her companion, Jesse Taylor, of Frenchville; one aunt, Billie Jo Ludwig; two uncles: Robert Brooks and his wife, Julie, and Ronald Brooks and his wife, Jennifer; maternal grandparents, William and Vicki Brooks of Frenchville, maternal grandfather, Terry Lidgett of Snow Shoe, and five nieces and nephews: Tucker, Shaylin, Lane, Camryn, and Grayson. 

Matthew was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Eric S. Vonada; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Peggy Smith, and maternal grandmother, Susan Lidgett.

Friends will be received on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 10-11am followed by a memorial service at 11am at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe, PA 16874 to help with funeral expenses.
