Theodore D. "Ted" Rhodes, Sr., 89, of Dix Run, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at his residence. Born June 19, 1920, in Benner Township, he was a son of the late David and Lulu Burkett Rhodes. On June 20, 1939, he married the former Marilyn Williams, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1995.
He served in the US Army during WW II. He was a dairy farmer for many years and also worked at Warner Lime Company, National Gypsum Lime Company, and he retired from Domtar Lime Company. He was a protestant.
He is survived by six daughters, Sally Bruss (Charles Lester), Linda Maurer (Richard), Hazel Miles (Linden), Martha Deppe (Howard), Doris Bennett (Robert), and Beatrice Reed (Rick); two sons, Thomas Rhodes (Ruth) and Theodore D. Rhodes, Jr. (Juanita); 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Along with his survivors, he will be sadly missed by his Dix Run Family. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Miles; two brothers, Oscar Rhodes and Clyde Rhodes; and a great-grandson, Brandon Miles.
Services will be held at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, in Milesburg, on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert Maurer officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 13 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Township.
