William “Bill” K. Corl, Sr. 93, of State College, died Friday, January 19, 2018; at Center Crest in Bellefonte.

He was born December 14, 1924 on the family farm in Ferguson Township; a son of the late William Albert and Clara Elizabeth Trostle Corl.

On October 29, 1949, he married Mary Ellen Struble Corl who survives at home.

Bill served in the infantry in U. S. Army during World War II, having served in Italy and earning the rank of Sergeant.

Always a hard worker, he grew up working on the family farm. He and his brother Jim later operated Corl Brothers trucking, a milk pick up and delivery business, serving farmers in the State College area by picking up milk in cans and delivering it to Belleville until the business evolved into general trucking company. After selling that business, he and his wife operated a family trucking company known as Corl Coal and Oil Company. He then left the trucking industry and went to work in the Plant Pathology Department at Penn State University until his retirement.

A lifelong Lutheran, he was a member of the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge, 700 in State College and the Williamsport Consistory. He was also a member of Pine Grove Mills Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5825.

Work was so much a part of his life that even his hobbies involved working. He was an avid and accomplished gardener, Bee Keeper, and enjoyed reading.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, William K. Corl Jr. of Lemont, Christy Corl Murphy (Dennis), of State College, Mary Lynne Corl of Lemont; five sisters Ester Luse (Dean) of Pine Grove Mills, Beverly Haynes, of Gainesville FL, Shirley Rader of Boalsburg, Connie Levine of Bellefonte, and Barbara Spindler of Tyrone; and two brothers, Sheldon Corl (Lois) of Pine Grove Mills, and Theodore Corl of State College.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Ben; one sister, Elizabeth Whitbred and a brother James Corl.

Following his wishes all services will be private at the convenience of the family, with burial in Pine Hall Cemetery, West College Ave. State College.
