A Centre County roller skating rink is permanently closing after two decades in business.

Penn Skates, 2210 High Tech Road in Benner Township, will host its last skating session from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, according to a post on the venue’s Facebook page.

Owner Valerie Dench wrote that she has sold the building and is retiring.

“Although I will miss you all, I am looking forward to retirement,” Dench wrote. “I would love to see you again before we close and say goodbye.”

Prior to the final skate, Penn Skates will be open 6-9 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Saturday this weekend and next.

Penn Skates opened in 2001. In addition to public skating, arcade games and a snack bar, it has offered summer and day camps and private parties. For the past 10 years it has been home to State College Area Roller Derby.
