Penn State football is preparing to a hire a Director of Football Research and Strategy according to a university job listing.
The responsibilities of the job are as follows:
- Research and produce football analytics studies relating to hiring and on the field performance
- Prepare speeches and presentations for the Head Football Coach for internal and external speaking engagements
- Assist the Director of Player Personnel and Director of High School Relations with organization of camps and clinics
- Facilities coordination for the Lasch Building: schedule, plan, and coordinate the maintenance, repairs and janitorial services with Office of Physical Plant; act as the liaison with outside building contractors when required; generate work assignments and purchase orders, as needed; assist the Head Coach and Chief of Staff in Program and Facility Master Planning; assist the Chief of Staff with the Lasch Construction Phases
- Assist Chief of Staff and Director of Football Administration with various travel responsibilities – For the Regular Season: create and maintain charter manifest as it relates to team travel; arrange post-game meals. For the Post Season: calculate player travel cost from home to the site for bowl games; manage and organize bowl events and team meals; create and distribute bowl manual
The hiring would mark the first of its kind for Penn State football as the support staff continues to grow and change under head coach James Franklin. Penn State is also in the process of filling various offensive and defensive analyst roles in addition to lead equipment manager. The hirings generally match a national trend of growing support staffs among top college football programs over the past several years.
The Nittany Lions have already hired a new defensive coordinator this offseason in Manny Diaz in addition to replacing longtime strength coach Dwight Galt III with an in-house promotion of Chuck Losey. Galt IV retired after a long career this offseason. Stacy Collins is also Penn State’s new special teams coordinator following the departure of Joe Lorig to Oregon.
Penn State also listed on Monday an Offensive/Defensive Analyst and Analytics Coordinator role in conjunction with a listing posted last week. The job includes the following responsibilities:
- Organize, coordinate and perform special teams analysis of practices, competition and future Penn State opponents
- Provide preliminary scouting reports and schemes for offensive coordinator to review prior to competition and practices
- Create self-scout reports for coaches and staff
- Coordinate data related to offensive analytics services used by the program and distribute to coaches and staff as appropriate
- Oversee the relationship with agents to ensure that our specialists are properly advised during the agent selection process
- Coordinate meetings with Penn State University agent Consultant Company and student-athletes, parents of student-athletes and the football staff
This position will manage and supervise the interns for special teams and will coordinate the recruitment and on-boarding process for interns.
